Google's social network Google+ has passed 500 million members, the company revealed in a blog post Thursday. Of these users, 135 million are said to be actively visiting the social network each month.
It is all about perspective. From the perspecive of the tech press, Google+ is a loser and Pinterest a winner. It seems to me that if Google+ was a standalone entity with 135 million active users per month, they'd be the darling of Silicon Valley. Pinterest has a paltry 11 million total (not active) versus Google+ with 50 times the sign-ups.
Sure, Pinterest gets the prize for being more unique. Yes, Pinterest gets the prize for achieving 11 million without having the weight of Google behind it. But why do so many write off Google+? I think that is dangerous.
Google+ is not a standalone, it has the awesome power of Google behind it. They will surely endure until the next paradigm shift.
